Exterior Insulation and Finish
Systems (EIFS) are multi-layered
exterior wall systems that are
used on both commercial
buildings and homes. They
provide superior energy
efficiency and offer much
greater design flexibility than
other cladding products.
The
insulation board provides the
system flexibility and thermal
resistance for insulating
qualities. The surface of the
board is covered with a
continuous, fiberglass mesh
reinforcement embedded in a
basecoat, which provides
strength and water-resistance to
the system. An application of a
colored acrylic finish coat
gives the wall its finished
look. The final and critical
step is the application of
sealants or caulking around the
openings, such as windows and
doors.
Feature ::
There are three layers to EIFS
Inner Layer
Foam insulation board that's secured
to the exterior wall surface, often
with adhesive. Middle Layer
A polymer and cement base coat
that's applied to the top of the
insulation, then reinforced with
glass fiber mesh. Exterior Layer A textured
finish coat.
